Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What to expect?
A: The goal is to work with you to produce a personal, professional collection of storytelling, artistic portraits while having fun. I want to capture you, your child and/or your family's true personalities in a relaxed manner and for you to walk away from your session with a sense of joy and security.
Q: How long will the session last?
A: On average I will spend at least two hours with you and your child. It takes time for the child to feel comfortable expressing their real and natural smiles. If a session goes over two hours, you should not be concerned. Some children take longer to warm up then others.
Newborn sessions take at least an hour & half or longer due to occasional fussiness, feedings and diaper changes. I never schedule more than one shoot a day, so you will have my undivided attention without feeling rushed.
Q: Why are your rates different than other portrait photographers?
A: Pretty simple, I do not sell prints or print packages. I sell the digital collection. A lot of studios will charge anywhere from $300 - $1,000 for a disk of 40-50 high resolution images on top of a $100 - $200 session fee. What does someone do with that many images? They pick out a handful then leave the rest sitting on the disk somewhere. I shoot and sell the high resolution images the client would pick to print for a great price. Add that to the amazing low prices of the printer I recommend and it’s an awesome deal.
Q: Location for the session?
A: Majority of maternity, baby, child and/or family sessions are in the client’s home where your child is allowed to be comfortable in their home environment. While I prefer to use natural lighting, I do bring lighting and backdrop with me. I am also available for alternative on-location shoots.
Individual sessions are usually on-location.
Q: Best time for the session?
A: Mornings are always better for babies or children as they are fed and awake. I typically schedule newborns and children in morning sessions (9:30 am until 12:00). Depending on weather and how light falls in the home/location, sometimes mid afternoon (2:00 to 4:00 pm), may be more feasible.
Q: What to wear?
A: For all children, I suggest loose fitting coordinated solid colors with little or no patterns/prints. Khakis, overalls, jeans and dresses work nicely. Try not to choose more than one change of clothes, especially for children 1 year and older. They tend to get frustrated by changing their clothes often. Also, consider having your child’s favorite hat, stuffed animal, etc. close at hand for their comfort.
For family sessions, I strongly suggest each family member wear clothing that has the same tone, not necessarily the same color. In the summer/fall months simple white button downs and jeans are a perfect choice. Fingernails and toenails photograph well when free of color and are nicely groomed or manicured. If barefoot is a preference, make sure everyone’s toes are groomed.
Q: When can I see the images?
A: One to two weeks after the session, I will contact you with a private link and password to view proofs of your images.
Q: How do I purchase the images?
A: You can choose which images you would like to purchase on the private link mentioned above. I have two payment methods:
- Purchase securely with PayPal on the proof viewing page, or
- Purchase in person with cash.
Once payment is complete, I will either hand deliver or mail your image disc with 2 copies of each image:
- 1 low resolution with my logo for internet use, and
- 1 high resolution without my logo for printing.
